DOG BOARDING IN NORTH CAROLINA
YOUR DOG STAYS IN A TRAINER’S HOME, NOT A KENNEL

When you need to travel, your dog deserves better than a concrete run and a stranger. Haven Dog Training offers home-based boarding where your dog stays in the trainer’s home, with someone who already knows them.
No kennels. No cages. No unfamiliar faces. This service is exclusively available to dogs who have completed training with us.
Your dog has already built a relationship with our team. They know our voice, our expectations, and our routines. When you drop them off for boarding, they are not walking into the unknown; they are staying with someone they trust.
We serve families across North Carolina, including Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Wilmington, and Jacksonville. If your dog has trained with Haven, we would love to welcome them back for a stay.
Dog Boarding at Haven Is Different
Our boarding is different from commercial kennels and even most in-home pet sitters. Your dog stays in a trainer’s actual home, with someone they already know, and the structure they learned in training is maintained throughout their stay.

During Their Stay
Real Results: The Raleigh Family with a High-Energy Lab
A Raleigh family completed our board-and-train program with their two-year-old Labrador Retriever. He came to us with pulling, jumping, and poor impulse control. After the program, he was a different dog: calm on leash, reliable recall, solid place command.
Six months later, the family had a week-long work trip. They were nervous about boarding, every previous kennel experience had left their dog wired and regressed when they came home. They reached out to us.
Their Lab stayed with one of our trainers for the week. Same structure he learned in training. Daily exercise. Place command reinforced. When the family picked him up, they expected the usual post-kennel chaos. Instead, he walked calmly to the car and settled in the back seat without being asked.
That family now books with us whenever they travel. Their dog knows the routine, knows the trainer, and actually gets excited at drop-off.

Home Environment, Not a Kennel
Commercial kennels serve a purpose, but they are stressful for many dogs. Barking echoes, unfamiliar smells, concrete floors. Our dogs stay in a real home with a real family environment, and that difference shows in how they behave when you pick them up.
Trainers, Not Pet Sitters
Your dog is not being watched by a teenager or a neighbor. They are staying with a professional trainer who understands dog behavior, recognizes stress signals, and knows how to maintain structure throughout the stay.

Relationship-Based Care
We only accept dogs who have been trained with us, and that’s intentional. It means every dog in our care is already known to us. We are not guessing about their needs or learning their quirks on day one. We already know them.
Reinforced Training
Your dog will not come home having forgotten everything they learned. Commands are maintained. Structure is consistent. In many cases, dogs return more polished than when they arrived because the structure we provide is even more consistent than a typical home environment.

What Our Team Typically Sees
Dogs Settle Faster When They Know the Trainer
Dogs Settle Faster When They Know the Trainer
The first night in a new environment is typically the hardest. Anxiety, pacing, refusal to eat. We see far less of this because your dog already knows us. The existing relationship shortcuts the adjustment period significantly.
Routine Matters More Than Luxury
Routine Matters More Than Luxury
Families worry about whether their dog will be comfortable. What we’ve found is that dogs care less about amenities and more about predictability. Consistent feeding times, consistent expectations, consistent handling.
Training Sticks Better With Reinforcement
Training Sticks Better With Reinforcement
Dogs who board with us periodically tend to maintain their training better than dogs we only see once. The occasional boarding stay acts as a refresher — keeping commands sharp and structure familiar.
Some Dogs Do Better Here Than at Home
Some Dogs Do Better Here Than at Home
This surprises families, but it happens regularly. Dogs who are anxious or reactive at home sometimes relax in our environment because the structure is clearer and distractions are managed.
While our boarding is focused on care, not active training, the structure your dog learned does not disappear when they arrive. Our trainers maintain the same expectations your dog already knows, which means they come home as the dog you dropped off, not a version that’s forgotten everything.

Your dog deserves a boarding experience that feels like a second home. If your dog has trained with Haven, we would love to welcome them back.
I’d like to start off by thanking Haven Dog Training for taking care of my dog while i’m away on deployment. I myself have been able see the improvements through videos, and pictures they send; keeping me updated on everything they do. They go out of their way to make sure training gets done correctly, and most important, they CARE. Once again thanks Haven Dog Training for taking care of my beautiful Sadie girl.

No. Our boarding service is exclusively for dogs who have completed a training program with us. This ensures we know your dog’s personality, needs, and training history before they stay with us. If you are interested in training first, explore our puppy training, private training, or board-and-train programs.
Your dog stays in the home of one of our trainers. This is not a kennel or boarding facility. It is a real home with a normal family environment.
Yes. Provide clear written instructions including dosage, timing, and any special requirements. We will follow your instructions exactly.
Bring enough of your dog’s regular food for the duration of the stay, plus a few extra days in case plans change. You are welcome to bring your dog’s bed, blanket, or a favorite toy. We provide everything else.
We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for holidays and peak travel seasons. Our capacity is limited because dogs stay in trainers’ homes, not a large facility.
It depends on the trainer and the dogs involved. If your dog is social and comfortable with other dogs, they may interact with other boarding dogs or the trainer’s personal dogs. If your dog is reactive or prefers solo time, they will be managed accordingly. We know your dog’s history and will match their environment to their needs.
Contact us for current rates. Pricing depends on the length of stay and any specific needs your dog may have.
